Fortnite was originally a “Tower defense” game, where players teamed up and defended an object from waves of zombies. The main feature of the game was the possibility of modular construction of buildings, which in turn allowed you to build both ordinary boxes and entire castles with traps. After the popularization of one of the game modes, namely “Battle Royale”, Epic Games directed all their efforts to the development of the game in this direction.
The gist is simple. At the beginning of the round, you (or your team) are sent to an island where you need to collect resources with a pickaxe for further construction. There are only three types of resources – wood, stone and metal. You also need to find weapons (assault rifles, pistols, grenade launchers, sniper rifles and more) and consumable items to regenerate your health and shield. After a while, the area a player is in narrows, forcing all players to move closer to the center of the map. If a player remains outside the safe zone, they take periodic damage. At the end, the player (or team of players) who was the last survivor wins. You can win by killing all players or by waiting for them to die outside the safe zone.
In addition to the main Battle Royale mode, additional modes are also available. For example, modes for improving shooting and building skills, arena modes for single or team battles. There are also fun modes such as Obstacle Course, Driving, Survival Against Zombies and more.
The main feature of Fortnite, which distinguishes it from other similar games, is the ability to modularize the construction of buildings from pre-collected resources. From the features of the game it is also worth noting the ability to communicate with other players using voice chat.
