Dead Cells

Dead Cells is a paid 2D platformer for Android smartphones in the metroidvania genre from Motion Twin and Playdigious. In the game you have to pass through various dungeons, while fighting monsters, collecting weapons and improvements for your game character.

In the game Dead Cells you play as an intelligent biomass that inhabits the corpse of an executed prisoner and will continue to do so after each of your deaths. According to the plot of the game, this is the reason why the main character (biomass) cannot die. Your task as the main character is to pass all the levels and defeat all the bosses of the game. Along the way you will have to collect improvements and add mutations to your character, find a variety of melee and ranged weapons and much more. The game’s complexity is added by the fact that you have only one life, and after death you will have to collect improvements, game currency and weapons again. This does not apply to the open game mechanics. They remain even after your death.

At the beginning of the game you are met by a girl who introduces you and tells you who you are and what you are about. After each level you pass, you get to a room where there is a “Collector”, Guillen and other non-player characters. They help the character in developing useful skills. Also, after passing a level, you have the opportunity to access two rooms that contain additional rewards. To get access to these rooms, you need to fulfill the prerequisites for passing the level.

From the pros it is worth noting that the presented game has a huge amount of game content. Different types of melee and ranged weapons, abilities and mechanisms, game mechanics and much more. One of the most important pluses of this game is the procedural generation of game levels. This means that each new level will be different from the previous one and will be unique. Enemies and upgrades for your game character will also have a new, randomized location. This makes the game more interesting and exciting.

From the minuses it should be noted that there are a lot of active buttons when controlling the game character. It is easy to get confused in them, due to the unfortunate location of some buttons (for example, the roll button, jump, ability activation and so on). Also, when controlling the game character, the wrong actions are triggered in some places. This makes the control more difficult and uncomfortable.
